Youth Day will be May 1, 2009. We will be involved with the seniors again for the Youth Day.
Our next budget meeting will be May 5, 2009 @ 6:15 p.m. We will have it open for any discussion on any pending items.
We are out advertising for Public Works Director. We have received 12 applications so far. Our PT Library Manager for the Bouse Public Library has closed. We should be able to work on the candidates within the next couple of weeks.
We are out currently for Public Defender proposals. This RFP closed on the 20th. We had 1 interested party. We will bring this to Council on the next meeting.
Darla has completed letters to all of our representatives for support for our Senior Center and all that she provides. She did a great job with it.
Community/Economic Development
Project: 2009 CDBG Grant.
- We have completed the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) packet which will be used to procure an architect for the project. We have sent our Project Announcement to the Parker Pioneer for publication. The publication dates are
- April 29th and May 6th.
- We are also working with Paul Selberg on getting a design put together for the new automatic door system for the Senior Center. This will be handled separately to expedite the installation of the doors.
Project: Task Force Facility Procurement.
- The design phase is finally complete and the plans are at the town engineer for review. When the review is complete the actual construction can begin.
- A ground breaking ceremony will be scheduled sometimes in May before the start of construction.
- We are still awaiting design information from Colorado River Communications, a security company for the security system for the facility.
Project: REDI Grant
- The new website is now online. We are adding new content to it to make it more informative and useful. Please check it out at www.ci.parker.az.us.
- If you find any problems or discrepancies with the web page, please report it to the Community Development Dept. at cdev@ci.parker.az.us.
Project: ADOT Grant – West California Ave. Traffic Enhancements
- Our project, the West California Ave. Traffic Enhancements, will be an ADOT project and they will handle all the procurement and construction.
- This project is now in the scoping phase. No new news on this project.
Project: Stimulus Package Funding
- We are preparing, at least, two projects for possible funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The Parker Cemetery Beautification Project will include cemetery fencing, portable shade structures and landscaping etc.
- We are also working on a project for the ball fields at Western Park. This project will include two new ball fields and include lighting, fencing and equipment such as backstops and dugouts.
Project: T-Mobile Cell Tower
- We are currently working with T-Mobile to permit them to install a cell tower at the Town of Parker maintenance facility located at Desert Ave. and 8th Street. This will be a 150’ monopole located by the vehicle Town of Parker maintenance yard.
- Our attorney’s have reviewed and edited T-Mobile’s lease agreement and it has been returned to T-Mobile for further action. T-Mobile is completing the architectural/ engineering on the project. A lease agreement is forthcoming and we are currently negotiating a rental price.
Project: RECON 2009
- We are preparing for the RECON convention which will take place from May 17th to the 20th of this year.
- We are currently making appointments with retailers for meetings and working on our displays and publications for the conference.
Project: Round 17 – ADOT Traffic Enhancement Grant
- We are preparing a new grant application for round 17 of the ADOT TE Grants. We will be applying for funds to complete the sidewalks and curb & gutter for the other side (northwest side) of West California Ave.
- We are working with PBS&J to put together this application. They will be working on the costing portions. The project will be very similar to last year’s application which was approved.
- This application is due on Friday, August 14, 2009.
Police Dept.
Officers arrested suspects for the following offenses during the previous week: three contempt of court warrants, two failure to appear warrants, driving on a suspended license, aggravated dui, and a domestic violence related assault.
Officers investigated a shoplifting, criminal damage, stolen vehicle, an Order of Protection violation and a child abuse that was determined to be unfounded.
Officers assisted CRIT PD with investigations involving disorderly conduct, assault, threats and a non-injury traffic accident.
School Resource Officer Mike Bailey investigated a case involving a bag of marijuana found by a child on a school bus.
Library
In the last week, members of the community visited the library 1807 times for computers, books, dvds, talking books, etc.
Also in the last week, 4 volunteers worked a total of 69 hours. They donated almost $1350.00 worth of in-kind service to the community through the library.
Social Security helped 123 people in the library last week.
In observance of National Volunteer Appreciation Week, the libraries held Volunteer Appreciation events in Parker, Bouse, and Indian Hills. Mayor, Karen Bonds, helped recognize Parker Public Library’s Volunteers on Tuesday. County Supervisor, Holly Irwin, helped recognize our Indian Hills Public Library Volunteers on Wednesday, and Bouse’s Volunteers were recognized on Thursday. In the last Fiscal Year, volunteers in our libraries in Parker, Bouse, and Indian Hills contributed almost $122,000 worth of service to the residents of La Paz County!

- Friday 4/24, the library will be closed while staff attends the Mohave Library Alliance Spring Conference, “CPR@your library--Connecting People with Resources” in Kingman.
- Monday 4/27 Ariana DeLeon & Jeannie Smith will attend AZ State Library training to learn how to use Brain Boxes, an early childhood development program, which was awarded to us last fall.
- Monday 4/27 Dale Savage & Ruthie Davis will be interviewing candidates for the PT Library Manager at the Bouse Public Library. Parker Public Library will open at 11:00 a.m.
- Thursday 4/30, 6:30 p.m., Parker Public Library will be hosting a OneBookArizona book discussion of “Capirotada: A Nogales Memoir” by Alberto Rios.
