Planning & Zoning Commission
3/24/2009 -- Docket PZ01-2009 –- The Planning & Zoning Commission approved a rezone from R-1-7 (Medium Density Residential) to I-1 (Light Industrial) for local businessman Mark Schifo. The property designated APN 311-13-042A located at 701 3rd Street is undeveloped land.

No meeting held this month.
Town Council
March 3, 2009 Regular Meeting -- No items pertaining to Community Development were discussed in this meeting.
March 25, 2009 Special Meeting -- A settlement with Kiewit Western Co. for $100,000 was approved by the council. This lawsuit has been ongoing for 4 years.
Interviews for Public Works Director were conducted by the Council in executive session. Council decided to re-advertise for the position.
Building Department Statistics
New applications for building permits – 6 issued.
A total valuation of this months building permits is $60,767.60
Total permit fees taken this month is $727.39.
Field inspections performed – 10 building inspections, 9 zoning investigations, 1 business license inspections and 2 courtesy inspections conducted.
Community Development Projects
Hillside Drive Paving
La Paz County has completed the prime coat and first layer of chip seal on the roadway to the La Paz County Fairgrounds. The County will install the next chip layer to finish up this project.
Task Force Building Request for Proposals.
We are anticipating a submittal of the final design documents. I anticipate construction should begin in late April or early May of 2009.
CDBG Barrier Removal Project
Our contract with AZ Dept. of Housing is now in place to begin the Barrier Removal Project for the Town of Parker to bring the Town building into compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. We are currently working on the RFQ package to procure an architect for this project.
Economic Development Department News
Business Development for the Town of Parker.
We are making plans to attend the RECON convention in Las Vegas again this year. We have meetings set up with several retailers and hope to persuade them to locate in Parker. The economy while still in bad shape, shows signs that there may be some improvement beginning.
REDI Grant – New Website design for Town of Parker.
World Vision Internet Services is currently working on the new website for the Town. We should have a working website in about 3 weeks or so. We will be putting it on line for general testing very soon.
Grant Applications
ADOT Traffic Enhancement (TE) Grant 2008 Project
Our Traffic Enhancement grant has been funded. Since this is a State project, ADOT will be doing all the project administration. This project is in the scoping process now.
The WACOG Congregate & Home Delivered Meals
A grant application for the Senior Center was submitted on January 16, 2009. We have been asked for additional information for the grant which we provided and we are awaiting final approval for the grant application.
ADOT Traffic Enhancement (TE) Grant 2008 Project
We are planning on submitting another Arizona Department Of Transportation (ADOT) Traffic Enhancement (TE) grant for Round 17 has just been released. We are going to be working with PBS&J to put together an application for the other side of California Ave. very similar to last year’s application which was approved by ADOT.
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Projects
We are currently preparing several projects to make “shovel ready” so that when funding becomes available through the ARRA that we will be able to participate. These are:
- The Parker Cemetery Beatification Project – new fencing, landscaping etc.
- The Western Park Ballfields Project – construction of two new ballfields and associated equipment and lighting.
- The refunding of the Parker Pool Reconstruction Project.
- The Parker Annex Wastewater Treatment Facility – design and construction.
